Day 8: Service Sunday: You are the Light!

Goal: Light THROUGH You
Theme: Minister

Today, our church came together to serve, love, and walk in the light of Christ by caring for those in need. With hearts full of compassion and hands ready to serve, our members spent this cold and rainy afternoon packing and distributing hot meals, warm clothing, hats, socks, hand warmers, and hygiene products to some of the most marginalized members of our Atlanta community: the unhoused.

This outreach was more than an act of kindness; it was a living demonstration of what it means to walk in God’s light. For Christians, following Jesus is about more than words—it’s about action. It’s about extending the love, grace, and generosity we’ve received from God to others, especially those who are often overlooked or forgotten.

The significance of this effort is amplified during the Christmas season, a time when we celebrate the ultimate gift of Jesus, who came to bring light to a dark world. Jesus himself reminded us in Matthew 25:40, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” By stepping out to serve, we reflect the heart of Christ and His call to love others sacrificially.

Today was a reminder that being a follower of Jesus means more than attending church on Sunday—it’s about living out our faith every day, in tangible and meaningful ways. Walking in the light means reaching out to those who are struggling, meeting their immediate needs, and showing them the same love and care that God has shown to us.

As we shared food, clothing, and warm smiles, we were reminded of the privilege it is to be the hands and feet of Christ. We also witnessed how even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others (more on this point later this week 😉).

This Christmas season, let’s continue to walk in the light and seek out ways to share God’s love with those around us. Whether it’s through prayer, service, or acts of generosity, may we be a reflection of the light and hope that Jesus brings to the world.
